“I’m one of those regular weird people.” ― Janis Joplin
I was born in Ohio where I married my husband, Roy. We have been married for 35 years and I have one son, Ethan, who is 30. When I was first married, I lived in Germany for almost 5 years, then I moved to New England where I first lived in Massachusetts then New Hampshire for 20 years. After that, I moved to Ohio for 5 years and now I am a transplant Texan!
I worked in the Nashua School District in New Hampshire for many years before returning to college. I graduated from Rivier College in New Hampshire where I majored in both Elementary Education and Special Education. I did my field service in Hudson, New Hampshire at Nottingham West Elementary School. Recently I completed my Master’s of Education in Learning and Technology form Western Governors University (Texas). I have taught math, environmental science and reading, first grade and have taught 2nd & 3rd grade for the last 7 years. As of recent, I am working in the Pflugerville, TX school district where I love teaching 3rd grade.
I love animals, especially giraffes, but at home, I have a Doberman named Molly. Anyway, my house is too short for a giraffe’s neck!
I love to read! My favorite books are: The Rules by Marty Kelley, any Junie B. Jones book, The Dot by Peter Reynolds, Stepping on the Cracks by Mary Dowing Hahn, Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, and The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins.
I love science and even though I am an adult and a teacher, I still learn things I did not know about the world daily and I hope you do too!
Austin Art Garage | Carly Weaver:I started painting grackles because they were invading in my backyard. I tried everything to make the pests stop eating my dogs’ food and pooping on the deck. So I embraced them through oil painting. Call it karma, they left my backyard…temporarily. I paint things that are specific to Austin area and only on wood panels I build myself. I spend just as much time in my wood shop as my studio. I landed in east Austin in 2005 from Boston with a BFA from James Madison University in Virginia.

Lauren Briére, in her mid-30s, watches too many movies and eats popcorn as a meal more often than not. She grew up in Wrentham, MA and got her BFA in illustration from MassArt in Boston. She works in Austin, TX now and runs multiple projects from home. Her professional artist’s resume consists of work ranging from children’۪s book illustration, designer rain umbrellas “Over Our Heads”, animated music videos (two of which for the awesomely sweet band, The Weepies), and quirky painting series made for her own amusement. Robots. Lots and lots of robots.
